Climate change and the Paris Agreement - the challenges and opportunities for investors
With record-high temperatures and frequent extreme weather events, the effects of climate change are becoming increasingly apparent. At the same time, the urgent need to reduce emissions and limit global warming continues to climb the agenda for governments, companies and the general public. The Paris Agreement provides a global framework for tackling the climate emergency - but how can active investors align their portfolios with the goals of the agreement?
Rupert began his career at Aetna Investment Management in 1991 as broker support assistant, before moving to M&G three years later to join the discretionary sales team. He has performed a number of sales related roles during his 27 years with M&G. Currently, after successfully achieving a demotion in 2019, he is very much in his happy place, as an “on the road” sales person, looking after wealth managers and other discretionary clients largely based in London, and the burgeoning and bustling financial centre which is Winchester.
John William Olsen, Fund Manager, Positive Impact Fund
John William Olsen, a Danish national, has been the manager of the Positive Impact strategy since launch in November 2018. Two years later, John William became deputy manager of the Climate Solutions strategy upon launch, and in October 2022 took over as manager. He is also deputy manager of the Better Health and Diversity and Inclusion strategies. John William joined M&G in April 2014, was appointed manager of the Global Select and Pan European Select strategies in July 2014 and, two years later, deputy manager of the Pan European Select Smaller Companies strategy. Prior to joining M&G, he worked for Danske Capital, where from 2002 he had managed non-domestic equity portfolios, including the Global Stock Picking, Global Select and European Select strategies. He joined Danske Capital in 1998 as a fund manager on the domestic Danish equities team, and in 2000 also became a global sector analyst focusing on technology and telecommunications stocks. John William gained a BA in business economics and then an MSc in finance and accounting from Copenhagen Business School.
Chris Andrews, Head of Engagement for Sustain and Impact Strategies
Chris is the Head of Engagement for Sustain and Impact Strategies. In this role Chris leads on investee company engagement for M&G Investments’ Sustain & Impact strategies, as well as undertaking a range of investor stewardship activities, including remuneration consultation and industry working group participation. Chris also acts as an impact and sustainability subject matter expert for the wider business. He joined M&G in 2011, initially as part of the investment communications team, moving to the Stewardship Team in 2016. Prior to joining M&G, Chris spent 10 years as a financial journalist, working across a number of trade and mainstream publications.
Fabiana Fedeli, CIO, Equities and Multi Asset
Fabiana joined M&G in August 2021 and is Chief Investment Officer, Equities, Multi Asset and Sustainability, responsible for teams in London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Chicago, Tokyo and Paris. Previously Global Head of Fundamental Equities and Emerging Markets Equities Portfolio Manager at Robeco. Prior to joining Robeco in 2013, Fabiana was a Portfolio Manager Asian Equities at Pioneer Asset Management and at Occam Asset Management. She began her career at ING Barings Tokyo as a Research Analyst in Japanese equities in 1999. Fabiana holds a Master's in Economics from Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo and a Bachelor's in Economic and Social Sciences from Bocconi University in Milan.
Lucy Hancock, Senior Equity Analyst, Sustain and Positive Impact t
Lucy is a Senior Analyst on the Sustain and Impact Team. She is a generalist sector assignment but with a focus on energy transition, decarbonisation technologies and sustainable materials. She joined M&G in 2022 from Sanford C. Bernstein where she was an analyst on the European Chemicals Team for 3 years. Prior to this she has spent 15 years in various roles in strategy consulting, private equity, energy and soft commodity trading, sales and structuring. She holds a B.Sc in Economics from the University of Bristol, an M.B.A. from London Business School and is a FSA (SASB) certificate holder.
